From April 29, 2010 there are new rules according to the EU Regulation 300/2008.
You no longer need to show ID card when you check in your baggage.
You must have a boarding pass to go through security. The airlines can make an exception to parent/guardian of unaccompanied children and persons with reduced mobility.
Note: Please be aware that other EU countries may have stricter rules than these.
Check of personal identity
If you are traveling to an EU country you can use the national identity card (you can also use the passport). The national ID card is also valid for travel to Norway, Switzerland, Iceland and Lichtenstein.
